Body By Brandy 4 Kidz teaches two ways to battle obesity: maintaining a good diet and exercising regularly. Our unique approach to teaching these values is described well by Dr. Diego Botero, a specialist in pediatric endocrinology at Children's Hospital Boston:
The ideal way to lose weight is to exercise and have fun at the same time. Exercise shouldn't be seen as punishment! It should be enjoyable. Programs like Fit Kidz at Body By Brandy are the ideal complement to a dietary intervention.
After spending time at Fit Kidz or Fitness in the City, your child will be at a healthier weight and with an active lifestyle. Participating in after school programs such as Body by Brandy, along with eating healthy and keeping your child active during free time are all important steps towards eliminating childhood obesity. Here are a few more ideas:
Fit Kidz Tips to Eliminating Obesity
Cut non-school screen time to two hours or less a day. (Includes television, videogames, computer, and text messaging) |
Participate in at least one hour or more of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day. |
Set a good example. If your children see that you are physically active and have fun, they are more likely to be active and stay active throughout their lives. |
Encourage your child to join a sports team or class, such as soccer, dance, basketball, or gymnastics. |
Be sensitive to your child's needs. If your child feels uncomfortable participating in activities like sports, help him or her find physical activities that are fun and not embarrassing. |
Be active together as a family. Assign active chores such as making the beds, washing the car, or vacuuming. |
Plan active outings such as a trip to the zoo or a walk through a local park to help your child understand that exercise isn’t always inside a gym or on a machine, even though that is a great place to start. See you at Body By Brandy 4 Kidz! |
